Ofgem and DESNZ consult on FSO security policy and updates

On Friday 4 August, Ofgem and DESNZ published a joint consultation on the Future System Operator (FSO) Second Policy Consultation and Update. The consultation covers two main elements; the new security and resilience roles, and a power allowing the Secretary of State (SoS) to direct the FSO in limited circumstances relating to national security. The consultation is seeking views on the proposed expectations that the FSO will provide annual readiness reviews and seasonal readiness reviews, as well as providing recommendations to Ofgem and DESNZ on the improvements that can be made to the emergency preparedness process. Views are also sought on the proposal that the SoS should be allowed to direct the FSO to mitigate risks before they arise when the risk is related to national security. Responses to the consultation are requested by 20 October.
