On Monday 15 May, National Grid published a report, Delivering for 2035: Upgrading the grid for a secure, clean and affordable energy future, in which it considers the transformation needed to deliver a zero carbon electricity system by 2035. It states that achieving this target will require decisive action from industry, government and Ofgem. The report is structured around five priority areas made up of: reforming the planning system; ensuring regulatory and governance framework is set up for delivery; transforming how clean energy connects to the grid; placing communities and consumers at the forefront of the transition; and developing supply chain capacity and a skills pipeline across the country. Within each area, National Grid outlines further recommended key actions to be taken and highlights that a far greater level of investment is required.
