Open letter on strategic transmission charging reform published

On Monday 11 September, Ofgem published an open letter on strategic transmission charging reform. The letter sets out the regulator’s initial thinking on the future role and design of electricity transmission network charging within the wider context of fundamental system change and policy reform, such as that being considered as part of the government’s Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA).

Commissioned CI report outlines electricity market reformation

In a joint release issued on Thursday 24 August, RenewableUK, Solar Energy UK, and Scottish Renewables announced the publication of a Cornwall Insight (CI) report that has found that a different approach in Ofgem’s aims to reform electricity markets could be achieved without risking investment in renewable energy.

ESO announces new DER specific ancillary service

National Grid ESO announced on Wednesday 9 August that, in collaboration with UK Power Networks (UKPN) and National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), it is delivering a new Distributed Energy Resource (DER) specific ancillary service, “MW Dispatch Service”.
